The Saratoga Springs Police Department have made two arrests after investigating a report of a gun being discharged in the Adelphi Hotel on Broadway on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Police began the investigation at the Saratoga Hospital when they were notified that a 57-year-old male identified as Kevin C. Lewis, of Woodrum Drive in Stony Point, was being treated for a suspicious wound to his leg. Police and investigators developed information that led them to believe that a gun was fired inside the hotel and police suspect that Lewis may have shot himself accidentally, according to police reports.
Lewis and a female, identified as Helen Diaz, 64, of Jersey Avenue in Maywood, N.J., were uncooperative with investigators, police said.
Police executed a search warrant at the room where Lewis and Diaz were staying and located additional evidence, and investigators developed further information from witnesses to the incident. Police have recovered a .40 caliber Glock handgun.
Lewis was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, a misdemeanor, and Diaz was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony.
Lewis does have a valid pistol permit in New York state, but Diaz does not, and during the investigation she was allegedly found in possession of the handgun.
Both were arraigned in City Court on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 27. Lewis’s case was adjourned to a date in September and Diaz was remanded to the Saratoga County jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bail bond.
