The Town of Colonie has plans in the works to become greener, but not by means of green space.
The town will be working with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and Industrial Development Agency to attract LEED certified buildings to the Town of Colonie and invest in IDA-approved alternative energy designs and programs.
According to Town of Colonie Planning and Economic Development Director Joe LaCivita, the town has already made an investment in a 54,000 square-foot building that will bring many jobs to the town and be in tune with the theme of greener design. LaCivita would not speak specifically about the building, though he did say more information would be available later this week when a formal announcement is made.
For the town, this could mean tax incentives the town could receive by building greener buildings.
