The Saratoga Springs Police Department arrested a jockey with a checkered past on drug charges following a traffic stop on Sunday, Aug. 16, on Park Place.
Police say Noberto Arroyo, 33, of Winthrop, Mass., was observed driving without a seatbelt and when stopped, it was discovered that his privilege to drive in New York was suspended. After Arroyo was arrested for the traffic related charges, a search of his vehicle allegedly revealed approximately 12 grams of cocaine. Police allege that Arroyo intended to sell the drug.
Arroyo was charged with not wearing a seat belt, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and two felonies: criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree.
Arroyo was arraigned in city court.
Earlier this year, the jockey reacquired his license with the state Racing and Wagering Board after failing a drug test in 2008.
