Bethlehem police have arrested a Delmar volunteer emergency worker after receiving a call about a Craigslist posting on the Internet soliciting encounters with young boys.
Daniel P. Heeren, 24, of Carstead Drive, Slingerlands, was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 6, by officers after police responded to the ad and made online arrangements to meet with him for the purpose of having a sexual encounter during an investigation into the matter.
Bethlehem police issued a released stating that `once Heeren arrived at the meeting place, he was immediately taken into custody.`
Police have charged Heeren with second-degree attempted rape, first-degree attempted disseminating indecent materials to minors ` both felonies ` and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
He was arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court and sent to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail, according to police, and he is scheduled to be back in town court on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m.
Bethlehem police are asking for anyone with information about Heeren’s activities to come forward immediately.
`Due to Heeren’s affiliation with the Delmar Fire Department/Delmar Rescue Squad and being a student at the Albany Medical College, anyone with additional information on Heeren is asked to contact the Bethlehem Police Department at 439-9973,` the release states.
