Guilderland Police are asking residents to lock thier doors, turn on a light, and join them for National Night Out, an event to rasie awareness and combat crime.
The 26th annual event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Tawasentha Park on Route 146 and is designed to help raise awareness about neighborhood crime and strengthen local bonds between law enforcement and community members.
The event is titled, Giving Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party, and will feature members from the crime prevention and personal wellness communities, child safety programs, community organizations, and have games, music and food.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and locally co-sponsored by the Guilderland Police Department. Nationally, it will involve more than `15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and Military bases around the world.`
`In all, over 37 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime,’` according to information provided by the town.
