A Colonie teenager was arrested by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, after a loaded shotgun was discovered under his pillow on Thursday, July 30.
Benjamin Karp, 16, of Joseph Avenue, was arrested after an investigation which involved a Sheriff’s Office informant purchasing marijuana from Karp at his residence at an earlier date.
Investigators obtained a search warrant after this event and on July 30, searched his residence in the early morning hours, according to the police report.
Investigators discovered a shotgun with an 11 inch barrel which had been illegally sawed off and fully loaded under Karp’s pillow, along with a small amount of marijuana, police said.
Karp was arrested and transported to the Colonie police station. He was arraigned by Judge Peter Crummey and sent to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
The investigation was done through a collaboration between the Albany County Sheriff’s Department Drug Interdiction Unit and the Albany Police CRU Unit.
