Residents of the Town of Clifton Park can expect the first edition of a biannual newsletter to be arriving in their mailboxes soon, if it hasn’t already.
The Clifton Park Today newsletter was conceived of as a way for the Town Board to communicate directly with residents in an era when many newsgathering organizations are stretched thin.
`We wanted to ensure that we didn’t have a gap in coverage and be sensitive to the fact that not everybody has access to the Internet,` said Councilman Scott Hughes, who spearheaded the newsletter effort.
A town wide newsletter has been a goal for some time, said Hughes, but it never really got off the ground. $10,000 was put into the 2009 budget for the newsletter, half of which was used for the inaugural edition. It was mailed to every postal customer in town, and additional copies are being made available at Town Hall and other town facilities.
The first edition of the newsletter details the status of several recreation projects including the upcoming Dwaas Kill Nature Preserve and the recently opened Mohawk Landing riverfront park. Residents are also directed towards the recreational needs survey on the town’s Web site, www.cliftonpark.org, which is running through Friday, July 31.
The next edition of the newsletter is tentatively scheduled for January.
