Saratoga Springs police continue to investigate an abduction in which a 24-year-old woman was struck in the head and dragged into a van. The woman escaped and fled to a Greenfield residence.
At about 10:50 p.m. on Thursday July 23, police responded to the area of Walnut Street and Grand Ave. for a report of a missing 24-year-old female. While Saratoga Springs Police were speaking with the person reporting the missing female the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police were responding to a residence on Howe Rd. in the Town of Greenfield where a naked female had run to a residence yelling for help. The residents of the Howe Road home called police and assisted the female who was identified as the person being reported missing in Saratoga Springs.
The investigation thus far has indicated that the female victim was walking on Walnut Street be-tween Washington St. and Grand Ave when she was approached from behind and struck on the head. She was dragged into the sliding side door of a mini van and driven away from the area. The suspect threatened the victim with a handgun and ordered her to take off all of her clothes. The victim managed to escape from the van and run to the Howe Rd. residence where the residents assisted the victim until the police arrived.
Police believe the suspect was driving a dark colored, possibly blue mini van and was described as a 25-35 year old white or Hispanic male with a chubby face and close cropped hair.
The investigation is continuing and additional details will be provided as they become available. Saratoga Springs Police are working with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police Investigators from SP-Wilton and SP-Saratoga.
