The average per show attendance at the New York City Ballet’s residency at Saratoga Performing Arts Center rose 24 percent when compared to last year’s levels.
Total attendance was 34,873, down from last year’s 42,354. The 2009 residency was shortened by one week as a cost saving measure, however, leading SPAC officials to declare the two-week season’s turnout a victory.
We are pleased and grateful that dance audiences turned out so strongly for New York City Ballet’s SPAC Season, said SPAC President and Executive Director Marcia White in a statement.
White went on to say that the shorter season helped to build momentum early on, and that pre-performance promotions helped stoke enthusiasm.
The average ticket income per performance also rose, from $66,786 to $56,040, a 19 percent increase.
