Guilderland Police are warning residents to keep their car doors locked and valuables out of the window, as a string of vehicles have recently been looted.
First Sgt. Manny Schulman said approximately a half-dozen car owners in Mckownville, on Lydius Street and on Jefferson Court have reported missing valuable such as Geographic Positioning Systems, or GPS, change and other items. Schulman said most the crimes have been of opportunity, and have not been break-ins.
The majority of the [cases] are people leave their cars unlocked, and someone is going in and taking change and valuables, Schulman said.
He said looting has been spread out over the last month, and has been in different areas of town, but suspects the culprits are related, and that some of the looting may have not been reported.
`We definitely know they’re linked,` he said. `We’ve got guys looking for them at night.`
Anyone with information can call the Guilderland Police Department at 356-1501.
