Heather Mallozzi, former building and planning coordinator for the Town of Malta, died Saturday, June 20, at North Shore Medical Center in Lynn, Mass., following a long battle with cancer.
Town officials were informed of her death via e-mail over the weekend by her husband, Richard, said Supervisor Paul Sausville. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, June 27, at the Malta Community Center at 10 a.m.
Mallozzi worked for the town for five years, and in that time her upbeat attitude served as an inspiration to everyone, said Sausville.
She affected everybody who met her with her smile, her charisma and the energy that she put into the job, he said.
She arrived at Town Hall in time to work on the town’s generic environmental impact statement and to lay the foundation for the chip fab project at Luther Forest Technology Campus, when AMD was just expressing interest in the site.
She was succeeded by Anthony Tozzi.
There are plans to build a meditation garden at the Malta Community Center to honor Mallozzi. Contributions to the effort may be made to the Meditation Garden Fund, c/o Adirondack Trust Co., 473 Broadway, Saratoga Springs 12866.
According to Richard Mallozzi, the garden concept involves a number of local residents and officials like Donna Gizzi, Councilwoman Sue Nolen and Deputy Supervisor Glenn Rockwood. Mike Ingersol from LA Group has volunteered to help with the design.
`It would be a quiet place at the Community Center, so people could maybe take a book out of our library and site in the meditation garden,` said Sausville.“
