The Colonie Raiders raised their Eastern New York Connie Mack League record to 10-3 with Monday’s 4-1 victory over Coxsackie at Colonie Central High School.
Both pitchers allowed two hits, but Colonie (11-3 overall) made the most of its hits to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and pull out the victory. Eric Birdsall had the big hit for the Raiders in the fifth inning with a two-run single.
Colonie pitcher Chris Kalica struck out 16 batters in his complete-game performance.
The Raiders entered the Coxsackie game off an impressive 3-2 victory over the South Troy Dodgers Sunday. Trevor Wadsworth drove in the game-winning run with a single in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Birdsall, Ron Notar and Matt Weinman all singled for Colonie, which rallied from a 2-0 deficit with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
The Raiders began their weekend with an 11-5 loss to Schenectady last Friday.
In other ENYCML action last week, the North Colonie Padres (6-3) bounced back from a 5-4 loss to league-leading Sorensco Wednesday to defeat Schenectady 2-0 Sunday. The Padres scored single runs in each of the first two innings on their way to beating the Cyclones (6-4).
North Colonie scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning of last Wednesday’s game to take a 4-3 lead before Sorensco came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth and another run in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win.
Tyler McMeel and Ryan Leonardo each drove in a run for the Padres, who sit in fourth place in the ENYCML standings.
Colonie returned to action Tuesday when it hosted South Troy in a non-league game. The Raiders host North Colonie Wednesday at Cook Park before traveling to Clifton Park Thursday and Niskayuna Friday.
Following its game at Colonie Wednesday, North Colonie travels to Columbia County Thursday.`
