Two students attending the Maple Avenue Middle School in the Saratoga Springs City School District have confirmed cases of swine flu, according to a letter sent home to parents today.
As in other cases where swine flu, or the H1N1 influenza virus, have been detected, the identity of the two students has not been released. District officials are asking parents to be especially aware of flu-like symptoms in their children, and to keep them from attending school if such symptoms do develop.
Symptoms associated with the swine flu include: fever, feverishness, cough, sore throat, runny nose or stuffy nose. Additional symptoms include muscle pain, fatigue and sometimes vomiting or diarrhea.
Parents are also reminded to teach their children proper hygiene habits, such as washing ones hands with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds and covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of the elbow.
