There is a confirmed case of the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, at Latham Ridge Elementary School, in the North Colonie Central School District, district officials confirmed Thursday, June 18.
The district posted a letter, written by Superintendent of Schools Randy Ehrenberg, stating that the school will not be closing due to the confirmed case, of which the letter does not say is of a student or faculty member. Ehrenberg said the Center for Disease Control did not recommend the school close unless there is a magnitude of faculty or student absenteeism that interferes with the school’s ability to function.
`If we all practice good hygiene, health officials believe we can limit the spread of flu in our schools at this time,` Ehrenberg wrote.
