Saratoga Springs’ Madalayne Smith repeated as the girls Division 1 (large school) and Federation 100-meter high hurdles champion at last weekend’s New York State Track and Field Championships at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.
Smith won impressively in last Friday’s Division 1 finals with a time of 13.88 seconds. Williamsville South’s Kailyn Arcury was second in a time of 14.23 seconds. Smith then bettered her time in last Saturday’s Federation final, winning with a time of 13.80 seconds over Arcury.
Smith added a fourth-place finish in the Division 1 long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 10.5 inches and ran with Melinda Boyce, Kelley Fredette and Hannah Reeves on Saratoga’s 400-meter relay team, which finished 13th with a time of 50.10 seconds. Smith was sixth in the Federation long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 1.75 inches.
Another Saratoga runner, Keelin Hollowood, made a strong debut at the state meet. The eighth grader placed fifth both among large school runners and overall in the Federation 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:33.02.
Shenendehowa’s 3,200-meter relay team picked up Division 1 and Federation titles with a time of 9:01.00. The team consisted Danika Simonson, Alex Burtnick, Cara Janeczko and Lizzie Predmore. Saratoga’s team of Hollowood, Brianne Bellon, Amanda Borroughs and Cassie Goutos was third with a time of 9:09.49.
Saratoga’s Haley Franco had top-10 finishes in the shot put and discus. Franco was ninth in the discus with a throw of 116 feet, 6 inches, and she placed 10th in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 0.75 inches.
Predmore and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s Samantha Roecker had top-six finishes in the Federation 3,000-meter race. Roecker was third in a time of 9:47.54, and Predmore placed fifth in a time of 9:49.58.
Meaghan Gregory concluded her stellar BH-BL career with a third-place finish in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. The senior finished with a time of 6:52.72. Suffern’s Shelby Greany won the Federation title with a time of 6:36.90.
Shen’s Michelle Quimby placed fourth in the Federation pole vault after clearing the bar at 11 feet, 6 inches. Quimby was also 13th in the Federation high jump after clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.
Shen’s Kelsey Hanson was fifth among Division 1 athletes and ninth overall in the Federation pentathlon. Hanson finished with 2,977 points, with her best performance coming in the 100-meter hurdles (second place, 15.22 seconds).
Shen’s 1,600-meter relay team of Sam Crisafulli, Kathleen Klein, Kelly Preston and Anna Suriano was 10th in a time of 3:59.08.
On the boys’ side, Shen’s Evan Palmer grabbed a second-place finish in the Division 1 discus with a throw of 165 feet, 6 inches, and he was ninth in the Division 1 shot put with a toss of 52 feet, 1.5 inches. Palmer’s teammate, Tyler Prendergast, was 15th in the Division 1 discus with a throw of 139 feet, 11 inches.
Saratoga’s Alex King finished fourth in the Federation long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 4 inches after placing sixth in the Division 1 long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 7.75 inches.
BH-BL’s Otis Ubriaco finished sixth overall (fourth among Division 1 runners) in the Federation 3,200-meter race with a time of 9:10.64. Shen’s Alex Leuchanka was 10th overall (seventh in Division 1) with a time of 9:18.46.
Ubriaco also teamed up with Chris Fernandez, Scott Maughan and Kent Harlow on BH-BL’s 3,200-meter relay team, which finished fifth in the Federation final with a time of 7:51.89.
Shaker’s Craig Weiss placed seventh in the Federation 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:39.87. Shen’s Jamie Glover was ninth in a time of 9:43.82.
Shen’s Brian Campoli came within .004 seconds of a top-10 finish in the Division 1 400-meter dash. Campoli finished with a time of 50.139 seconds, while Freeport’s David Lewis placed 10th with a time of 50.135 seconds.
Saratoga’s 1,600-meter relay team of King, Tim Mount, Stefan Rafaniello and Mike Seahorn was ninth in the Division 1 race with a time of 3:21. 25.`
