Pay scales for local town employees online
In an effort to allow readers to follow the money more easily during these times of economic woe, The Spotlight is unveiling its online database of all town employee salaries in its coverage area.
A new component has been added to www.spotlightnews.com that will allow users to enter a name, municipality, position, salary range or any combination of queries into the database that will show who’s making what in your town.
The new salary database can be found at www.spotlightnews.com/salaries2009, or through a link on the Web site’s main page, which will updated at regular intervals to reflect new hires, retirements and pay raises.
In the Town of Colonie, Supervisor Paula A. Mahan pulls down the most at $118,229. In fact, she is the highest paid town supervisor in any of The Spotlight’s coverage areas, with Town of Bethlehem Supervisor Jack Cunningham earning $106,890 and Guilderland Supervisor Ken Runion at $100,947.
`It’s a major corporation,` Mahan said of the town, which has a population of over 80,000 people. `The Town of Colonie is much larger than the neighboring towns.`
Mahan said the Town of Colonie, in terms of population, is better comparable to the City of Albany.
Water management pays well in Colonie, as other notable earners in the town are John Frazer Jr., Superintendent of Latham Water, at $99,548; David Mcmorris, director of the town’s Division of Pure Waters, at $101,471; and Water Maintenance Supervisor Stephen Mahan at $71,622
Former Director of Town Operations Peter Gannon made $72,500 before leaving the post June 1.
The salary information has been collected from payroll information provided by the town clerks offices of each municipality.
