Roz Robinson, former chair of the New Scotland commercial zone advisory committee, announced she will be collecting signatures to run for Town Board in a letter dated Tuesday, June 9.
Robinson, a Republican Party committee member said she was unhappy that only candidates supporting a 50,000 square foot size cap had been in the mix until she and Karen Moreau, a recent newcomer collecting signatures for the Supervisor position, decided to run.
Incumbent Doug LaGrange, a Republican and Chuck Voss, a planning board member have received support from the Conservative Party, and were discussed as the Republican Party’s picks for town board, but Robinson said she is throwing her hat in the ring and hoping to force a primary in November. There are two seats open, with Robinson, LaGrange and Voss all collecting signatures for the Republican line.
The voters were really getting shut out of having a choice, he said. `It’s really about choice for me.`
Robinson noted that she is not supporting `big-box` development in town, but wants to keep the option of having a development similar to Stuyvesant Plaza open. She also said the commercial development issue is not the only one facing the town. She added that Clarksville, Unionville and Feura Bush, on the opposite side of New Scotland’s commercial zone also have noteworthy issues.
