Colonie police have arrested David V. Ferrara, 41, of Waterford, and charged him with two counts of third-degree assault stemming from a turkey hunting incident that resulted the injuries of two other hunters at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 16.
According to police, the incident occurred in a wooded area off of Troy-Schenectady Road near Keeler Motor Cars in which two hunters, Anthony Santoro, 25, and Vincent Santoro, 23, both of Cohoes, were injured with pellet wounds.
Police said the injuries were caused by the discharge of a long gun by Ferrara, who works as a Corrections Officer for the Albany County Sheriff’s Department. Ferrara was accompanied by Lt. Edward Watson of the Watervliet Police Department at the time of the incident, police said.
Both Santoros were transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment of their wounds, which police said were non-life threatening, and released.
The incident was investigated by the Colonie Police Department and the New York State Environmental Conservation Police Department.
In addition to the assault charges, Ferrara was also charged with possession of a loaded weapon, possession of another person’s license and failure to display a back tag.
Ferrara was arrested and transported to the Colonie police station. He was released with a ticket to appear in court on Wednesday, May 27.
