The Shaker girls lacrosse team began its second season in grand style Monday with a 19-9 victory over Columbia in the Section II, Class A quarterfinals.
The second-seeded Blue Bison (11-3) jumped out to a 12-4 lead and never looked back in advancing to Wednesday’s semifinal against No. 3 Bethlehem, which edged No. 6 Colonie 8-7 in another quarterfinal Monday.
Caroline Rehfuss scored six goals to lead a balanced Shaker attack. Lexi DalCol contributed four goals, Adrianne Devine chipped in three goals and two assists and Lauren Smith tallied twice.
Sydney Jenkins had six goals for Columbia.
Colonie (7-7) rallied from a 5-3 halftime deficit against Bethlehem (12-3), only to fall short by one goal in its quarterfinal game.
Lauren Kross and Rachel Scofield each scored two goals, and goaltender Jen Davis stopped five shots for the Garnet Raiders. Cameron Caesar led Bethlehem with four goals and an assist.
Bethlehem and Shaker split their two Suburban Council games this season. Bethlehem edged Shaker 8-7 on April 29 in Latham, and Shaker returned the favor by beating the Lady Eagles 14-12 May 11 in Delmar.`
