The Colonie Republican Party voted to endorse Michael Hoblock Jr. as their candidate for the Colonie town supervisor seat currently being occupied by Democrat Paula Mahan at a meeting Tuesday, April 21, with all committee members voting aye.
Upon accepting the endorsement, Hoblock spoke of his commitment in government-on the state, county and town level.
`Why would a 66-year-old man with white hair…want to run for public office again?` he said, after sharing with the nearly-100 people that filled the room at the Colonie Republican headquarters, on Wolf Road, that he has previously served as a state senator, the Albany County Executive and chairman of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.
Hoblock said he was not sure, in the weeks leading up to his endorsement, whether he did want to run.
`Since January of this year, I’ve been getting a lot of opinions,` he said, one opinion, he said, being, `you’re crazy!`
After the endorsement, Hoblock told The Spotlight that he had decided to run after looking at `the conditions that are happening in the Capital District.`
Hoblock said, at this point, he does not have a specific campaign strategy, although, `As the campaign goes on, we’ll come up with various proposals.`
