Last year, the Bethlehem boys tennis team lost to Niskayuna in the sectional tournament.
This year, the Eagles are back and confident that they can avenge last year’s loss.
We have a mix of veteran leadership and new talent, said coach Steve Smith. `We have two eighth graders and six seniors.`
Smith specifically mentioned three player that will help the team be `very solid.`
`Mike Amico, Jesse Hoffman and Peter Collins are tremendous tennis players who could be number one on almost any other school’s team,` he said.
But, the Eagles know that they are not the most feared team in the Suburban Council. Looking at the schedule, only two teams appear to be capable of beating them ` Guilderland on April 21, and Niskayuna on April 28.
`Guilderland is very strong[but] Niskayuna is the top dog. They won the Sectionals last year. They won the Suburban Council. They have their entire team back,` said Smith.
Fortunately for the Eagles, their two toughest games are both on their home court, where their leadership can shine through.
Overall, the upcoming season should be a good one for Bethlehem.“
