The Saratoga Performing Arts Center announced today the schedule for its 2009 season of the Philadelphia Orchestra, to run Aug. 5 to 22.
Highlights include an appearance by Alec Baldwin, who will narrate Copland’s Lincoln Portrait on Aug. 5; a `Cello Extravaganza` with acclaimed performer Yo-Yo Maon Aug. 12; an Aug. 8 performance from violinist Joshua Bell; and three pops evenings with guest conductors Marvin Hamlisch, Erich Kunzel and Jeff Tyzik. On all other nights, Charles Dutoit, who will be celebrating his 20th year as principal conductor and artistic director of SPAC’s Orchestra Season, will lead the orchestra.
`The Philadelphia’s Orchestra 2009 Summer Season at SPAC will be simply extraordinary,` said Marcia J. White, SPAC President and Executive Director, in a statement. `Under the direction of Maestro Charles Dutoit, the Orchestra will present one of its richest and most diverse programs in years.`
The season will also see the return of theme nights, such as Thursday Date Nights, featuring upscale beer and wine tastings and Friday Family Nights, with Stewarts ice cream and other family-oriented events.
Tickets for season go on sale May 10, at noon, through SPAC’s box office, by phone or at www.spac.org, where a detailed schedule can also be found.
