Steven Raucci, the facilities manager for the Schenectady City School District, who is in currently in jail facing multiple counts of terrorism and arson charges, notified the school district that he intends to retire next month, effective April 15, according to Karen Corona, spokeswoman for the district.
We received [the letter] yesterday, said Corona of Raucci’s letter of intent to retire.
According to Corona, Raucci, 60, of Niskayuna, has worked for the district for almost 35 years and is eligible for retirement. The district will decide on a course of action regarding the matter at their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, March 17.
Despite the counts Raucci faces, he is still eligible for his benefits.
`Mr. Raucci’s pension benefit is guaranteed by the State Constitution and cannot be diminished,` said Emily DeSantis, spokeswoman for the State Comptroller’s office.
She also noted that Raucci can withdraw or change the date of his retirement at any time prior to the effective date as long as it meets the filing requirements.
Raucci’s retirement resolution appears as a normal item on the school’s Board of Education agenda, which is available the district’s Web site.
The regularly scheduled meeting of the Schenectady City School District Board of Education will take place tonight at 7:30 p.m.
