An Albany man was arrested Saturday, March 7, at his residence on felony charges of attempted kidnapping after he allegedly grabbed a 14-year-old female and attempted to place her in his car.
The man, Brian McArdle, 27, was interviewed by police earlier that day, around 2 p.m. Colonie Police Detective Lt. John Van Alstyne said, after police received a call for an annoying vehicle driving in circles around the parking lot of McDonald’s on Wolf Road.
Police later received a call from the 14-year-old female, stating that a man had attempted to grab her at about 4:25 p.m. as she was walking on Sand Creek Road, near Sunset Boulevard, Van Alstyne said.
The suspect pulled his car up just behind her and grabbed her from behind, Van Alstyne said.
According to Van Alstyne, the female `immediately went into fight mode,` and began hitting McArdle’s arms. His grip was then released, police said, and the female fled on his foot, at which point McArdle got back in his car and left the scene.
After leaving, the female called police, describing the vehicle and the attempted kidnapper. `She described the vehicle and the suspect, and the police who answered the call realized we had contact with the suspect two hours earlier,` Van Alstyne said.
Police went to McArdle’s house, on Pine Avenue, in Albany, and arrested him. Van Alstyne said McArdle is being charged with attempted kidnapping, as well as resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
McArdle was arraigned in the Town of Colonie Court and sent to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
