The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys basketball team put up a fight against Gloversville, but it couldn’t stop Matt Baldwin.
Baldwin scored 26 points including six three-pointers to lead the second-seeded Dragons past the seventh-seeded Spartans 50-40 in Sunday’s Section II, Class A quarterfinal game at Hudson Valley Community College.
Baldwin popped four of his six three-pointers in the first half to give Gloversville (19-2) a 25-15 halftime lead.
Hayden Skalski gave BH-BL (9-12) a lift in the third quarter. Skalski scored eight of his team-high 14 points during a 13-4 Spartan run in the third quarter that cut Gloversville’s lead to 29-28.
Baldwin made certain the momentum didn’t stay on BH-BL’s side. He hit his final two three-pointers to re-establish Gloversville’s 10-point lead.
Skalski caught fire, and that’s what we needed at that point, said BH-BL coach George Dudas. `Unfortunately, Matt Baldwin was on the other end of the floor.`
Zach Morton contributed 12 points for the Spartans.“
