A body found on the morning of Tuesday, March 3, in Saratoga Spa State Park has been identified as Alexander Carsky-Bush, 19, of Saratoga Springs.
Though authorities are waiting until an autopsy is performed to declare a cause of death, they have labeled the incident as suspicious.
There is a difference between calling it a criminal matter and a suspicious death, said Saratoga County District Attorney James Murphy III. `We have to be very careful about jumping to conclusions one way or another until the body can be really inspected.`
According to police, Carsky-Bush’s body was found at around 8:30 a.m. by a woman exercising her dogs. The body was found off of the trail, frozen by the previous night’s frigid temperatures.
Though police are still investigating, Sgt. Jack Sadousky of the park police said there is no immediate reason to assume a crime has been committed.
`It doesn’t appear to be foul play,` said Sadousky.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday morning, but a park police representative said that it had been postponed until 5:30 p.m., after The Spotlight went to press.
Carsky-Bush was a 2007 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, and has a younger brother and sister still in school ` a junior and freshman, respectively.
According to Saratoga Springs High School Principal Frank Crowley, Carsky-Bush was an accomplished student, a member of the mock trial team and president of the Leo Club, a student-level group with ties to the Lions Club. He was also enrolled in LeaderSpark, a program designed to develop young leaders. He was one of three students selected from the Saratoga County program to shadow leaders at the state capitol in 2006.
`The teachers found him in class to be very polite, respectful and hard working,` said Crowley. `The memories were very fond and positive of this young man.`
The Registrar’s Office at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, confirmed that Carsky-Bush had attended class there, but is not enrolled now. He also attended SUNY Binghamton for one semester in the spring of 2008.
