The CBA Brothers defeated the Bethlehem Eagles in basketball 63-53 in Wednesday’s Section II, Class AA playoff game.
Although it seemed like it was over after the Brothers got out to a 21-8 first quarter lead, the Eagles came back led by Kevin Wendth’s 19 points to make it interesting. Bethlehem cut the deficit down to five points with 1:30 left in the game. But in the end Galal Cancer’s 19 points, combined with Andrew Stire’s 16 points, sealed the victory for the Brothers. Freshman Joe Krong added 12 points for CBA.
`I thought they played hard. I was very proud of the effort. A lot of teams, being down 18 at one point, probably would have packed it in and said ‘oh they got us,’` said Bethlehem coach A.G. Irons. `We talked a lot about pride, and what it meant to the program and how we’re going to finish the year off.`
This game also contained a sub-plot; CBA head coach Dave Doemel is Irons’ father in-law.
`We talk basketball a lot and we talk about things we run, talk about our players,` said Irons. `It was a game there wasn’t a lot of surprises in.`
