For about 15 minutes, South Colonie Central School District authorities said, Lisha Kill Middle School went into lockout mode after a neighbor who was walking their dog reported smelling an odor of gas coming from the school.
According to Communications Coordinator John Noetzel, the incident was reported by the neighbor to the school at about 10:30 a.m. `So, we called an emergency fire department and National Grid to come check it out,` said Noetzel.
Noetzel said the responders determined fairly quickly that the cause of the odor was a leak in a regulator valve that entered the building. There was no danger with this leak, Noetzel said.
During the lockout, the school remained in function as usual, with students in classes, although no one was allowed to enter or exit the building until the cause was determined, Noetzel said.
