United States Sen. Charles Schumer announced Upstate schools will receive $496 million in federal aid on Wednesday, Feb. 25, according to his office.
He said the aid should prevent most of the anticipated cuts in state education.
Albany County will receive more than $14 million, Schenectady County is slated for more than $8 million and Saratoga County is expecting close to $9 million, according to a report from Schumer’s office.
The stimulus package will be a big boost to Upstate New York schools, students and taxpayers. We could not afford to risk the quality of education New York students receive by laying off teachers and slashing academic programs. This funding will make sure New York schools have the resources they need to continue to make the grade, Schumer said.
