Guilderland Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred at 10 Van Wormer St. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 3:18 p.m.
According to police, two men entered the residence occupied by a man and woman and struck the male victim in the head casuing lacerations.
The victims fought back causing the intruders to flee, but an unknown amount of cash was taken during the altercation. The assailants fled to an unknown SUV and took off in an unknown direction, the report states.
Captian Cutis Cox said the police now believe the vehicle in question to be a silver Grand Cherokee, he told the Spotlight Newspaper on Thursday, Feb. 20.
The male victim was taken to St. Peters Hospital and treated for the wounds. He has been released. The female victim was not injured.
Police believe the act was not random, according to an update on Thursday, Feb. 19.
At this time, it appears that the victims were targeted as a result of a business transaction and that this was not a random act. Additional information is not available at this time regarding the nature of the business and remains under investigation.
Chief of Police Carol Lawlor issued a hand delivered letter to homes in the area alerting residents the assault was most likely not a random act, and appeared to be business` related.
`When situations such as this occur, it can be of significant inconvenience to our residents due to the nature of the incident and the amount of resources which are needed to respond. For that I apologize, but appreciate your cooperation and understanding,` Lawlor wrote.
