Colonie police are investigating now two robberies that have occurred around the same time on Wolf Road this month at different banks.
According to Colonie Police Detective Lt. John VanAlstyne, a robbery of a victim making a night deposit drop occurred last night (Monday, Feb. 16), around 10 p.m. at Bank of America.
VanAlstyne said the victim, a female, had with her a money bag from a business that she was dropping off at the bank. The victim had pulled up to the bank in her vehicle, he said, when she was approached by a male dressed in all black, wearing a ski mask in which only his eyes showed, and displayed a handgun, demanding her money bag.
VanAlstyne said the woman complied, giving the male the bag, and he then fled the scene on foot. He also said no vehicles were seen at the crime scene and no witnesses saw what had happened.
While VanAlstyne did not know the amount of money that was in the bag when it was stolen, and would not disclose the business from which the money bag was coming, he did say that this is not the first robbery of this nature on Wolf Road this week.
On Thursday, Feb. 5, VanAlstyne said a similar robbery occurred at Trustco Bank.
During the robbery, VanAlstyne said, a male wearing all black, a ski mask, and presenting a handgun, was described by a female victim who said she was approached and asked to hand over her money bag while she was making a night deposit around the same time at night.
They were both at about the same time, both with female victims making night deposits, said VanAlstyne. `The suspect would be pretty much the same on both.`
VanAlstyne said police do not currently have a suspect in mind, because in the robbery on February 5, no vehicle was seen and nobody had reported to have seen anything. In this robbery, VanAlstyne said, the male fled on foot as well, after the female victim complied by giving him the money bag.
VanAlstyne asks that if anybody has heard anything or has more information, that they contact Colonie police at 783-2811.
