After a 1-4 start to its season, the Loudonville Christian boys basketball team has risen to near the top of the Central Hudson Valley League standings.
With last Friday’s 63-53 victory over Germantown, the Eagles improved their league record to 11-3 (12-6 overall) and moved within a half game of first-place Heatly.
Loudonville Christian utilized a balanced attack to offset German-town’s one-two punch of Thomas Griffin and Cody Broast. Five Eagles reached double figures in scoring, led by 14-point efforts from Jared Reboer and Mark Smith. Koury Deeb and Dillon King each contributed 11 points, and T.J. Duguld added 10 points.
Griffin netted 23 points, and Broast added 16 points for Ger-mantown (11-4, 14-5), which had been in first place for much of the CHVL season.
Loudonville Christian returned to action Tuesday against Doane Stuart. The Eagles wrap up the regular season Feb. 13 against New Lebanon.
In other weekend boys basket-ball action, Colonie moved into a second-place tie with Guilderland in the Suburban Council South Division standings following a 47-42 victory over Niskayuna, while Christian Brothers Academy fell to Big 10-leading Bishop Maginn 65-51.
Colonie (9-4, 11-6) needed a big second quarter to pull off the road win at Niskayuna (3-11, 4-14). The Garnet Raiders outscored the Silver Warriors 20-5 in the second quarter to gain a 26-18 halftime lead. Niskayuna had a slight edge in points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
Kyle Mafrici netted 13 points to lead Colonie. Sean Peer and Troy Turned each added nine points. Kyle Bayly’s 13 points paced Niskayuna.
With Colonie’s win and Guilderland’s 57-45 loss to Shaker, the Garnet Raiders moved into a tie for second place, one game behind South Division-leading Mohonasen.
In Albany, Bishop Maginn (12-0, 13-3) had a hard time pulling away from CBA (12-2, 14-3). The game wasn’t decided until the fourth quarter when the Golden Griffins outscored the Brothers 22-13.
Taran Buie scored 23 points, and Trashon Burrell contributed 21 points for Bishop Maginn, which has handed CBA two of its three losses this season.
Galal Cancer had 15 points, and Kameron Ritter added 10 points for the Brothers, who traveled to Kingston Tuesday for a non-league game.`
