If it’s a close game, the Shaker boys basketball tean usually winds up on the wrong end of the score.
The Blue Bison (2-4 league, 3-7 overall) suffered their fourth loss by two or less points when they fell to Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 54-52 in overtime in last Friday’s Suburban Council North Division game.
Shaker outscored BH-BL (3-2, 4-3) 16-9 in the third quarter to take a 40-35 lead, but the Spartans defense stepped up and held the Blue Bison to five fourth quarter points. That helped BH-BL come back to tie the game at 45. The Spartans then outscored Shaker 9-7 in overtime to pull out the win.
Paul Layton scored 11 points, and Hayden Skalski contributed 10 points for BH-BL, which won a Suburban Council game for the first time since Dec. 23.
Chris Hooks drained six three-pointers as part of a 21-point performance for Shaker. Robert Johnson added 10 points.
In other weekend basketball action, Colonie improved its Suburban Council record to 3-1 with a 61-37 victory over South Division rival Columbia, while Christian Brothers Academy raised its Big 10 record to 5-1 with a 64-48 victory over Amsterdam.
Colonie (5-3) established con-trol early against Columbia, out-scoring the Blue Devils 28-17 in the first half on its way to the victory.
Herb Tedford had his best game since returning from an injury. The senior center scored 21 points to lead a balanced Garnet Raider attack.
Kraig Arnold chipped in 15 points, and Kyle Mafrici added 13 points for Colonie, which hosted Shenendehowa Tuesday.
Joe Krong and Galel Cancer each scored 16 points for CBA (7-1), thanks to strong free throw shooting. Krong made all six of his foul shots, while Cancer had a 5-of-6 performance from the charity stripe.
Andrew Stire contributed 12 points for the Brothers, who visited Bishop Gibbons Tuesday.
Loudonville Christian (6-4) easily handled Doane Stuart 67-44 in a Central Hudson Valley League game last Friday.
Cullen Overholt had 23 points, and Jared Reboer added 20 points for the Eagles, who improved their league record to 6-1.
In girls basketball action last weekend, Shaker moved above .500 in the league with a 38-33 Suburban Council North Division victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, while Colonie fell to Columbia 46-42 in a South Division contest.
Shaker (4-3, 5-6) trailed by five points entering the fourth quarter before outscoring BH-BL (0-7, 1-9) 15-5 to pull out the victory.
Adrianne Devine scored 12 points, and Eden Alexanian added 11 points for the Blue Bison, who were coming off close losses to Shenendehowa and Colonie.
Colonie (3-3, 5-5) was hoping to build off last Tuesday’s 36-30 victory over Shaker when it met Columbia Friday, but the Blue Devils (2-4, 4-6) outscored the Garnet Raiders 22-18 in the second half to pull out the win.
Amie Jefferson’s 20 points led Colonie.
