Bethlehem opens Town Hall as a warming station for residents and has asked for Red Cross Assistance
Town of Bethlehem Supervisor Jack Cunningham this morning activated the Town’s Emergency Management Response Plan and has opened Town Hall as a warming station for residents in the wake of power outages created by freezing rain.
As part of Bethlehem’s emergency response plan, the town’s Senior Services Department is contacting seniors to ensure their safety, while Highway and DPW crews have been working since late last night to clear roads.
While most primary roads in town are open, some roads remain closed due to do fallen wires. National Grid is reporting that 8,564 Bethlehem customers are currently without power.
In addition, the Bethlehem Police Department and all Fire Departments have been working since late last night to ensure public safety and help residents without power.
The Town has contacted County officials and is prepared to work with the Red Cross to open an emergency shelter in the event of a long term power outage.
For more information or updates, town residents can contact the Supervisor’s Office at 439-4955, ext. 1164, during business hours, or call the Police Department after hours at 439-9973. `
