The Guilderland hockey team is hoping the Capital District High School Hockey League season goes better than its first four games.
The Dutchmen (0-4) struggled at last weekend’s Potsdam Tournament, losing to the host school 13-5 in Friday’s opening round and falling to Canton 3-0 in Saturday’s second round.
It was a little rough, said Guilderland coach John DeRubertis.
Potsdam scored less than 10 seconds into Friday’s game and quickly built a 3-0 lead before the Dutchmen got their skates under them.
`The kids gave it a pretty good effort,` said DeRubertis. `We did score five goals against a good team.`
Dan Dickinson recorded a hat trick, and Collin Burg and Greg Warnken added goals for Guilderland.
The Dutchmen’s defense was sharper against Canton, but they couldn’t get any points on the scoreboard.
`We were generating (scoring) opportunities like the night before, but we didn’t put the puck in,` said DeRubertis.“
