New Scotland Town Supervisor Tom Dolin said the Town Board had an emergency meeting on Monday, Dec. 1 to discuss safety issues at the Youmans Road railroad crossing.
He said the meeting was mostly informational and the town engineer and highway supervisor discussed funding options and potential solutions to circumvent the crossing or bolster its safety.
Town attorney Mike Macky was also present at the meeting to discuss the legal implications of any action at the crossing.
Earlier discussions involved constructing a 1700-foot road that would connect Great View Terrace to Youmans Road, but the decision ultimately rests in the Department of Transportation’s hand.
The town is going slow as far as incurring any expenses, Dolin said.
It is actively seeking state and federal funding to help with any costs.
Dolin is scheduled to meet with Department of Transportation officals on Friday Dec. 5 to discuss alternatives and potnetial funding solutions.
