Republican Roy McDonald will represent the 112th Assembly District, as he garnered 76,990 votes in Tuesday’s election. His opponent, Democrat Mike Russo, took in 50,662 votes.
While many incumbents in the state legislature held their seats in Tuesday’s election, perhaps the most notable element of this year’s 43rd Assembly District race was the lack of an incumbent. A surprise retirement by Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Bruno earlier this year produced a mad dash to fill the void. He gave his endorsement to McDonald early in the race.
Christopher Consuello, appearing on the Working Families Party line, had 1,373 votes cast for him.
McDonald will move from the Assembly, where he rperesented the 112th District. Russo left a senior position at Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand’s office to pursue the Senate seat.
The 43rd encompasses Rensselaer County and much of Saratoga County, including Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Saratoga Springs, Malta and Milton. Registered Republican voters outnumber Democrats roughly 80,000 to 64,000, with nearly 87,000 unaffiliated or third party registered voters.
