Republican John Wasielewski, a retired Air Force major and district resident, is challenging Democrat Robert Reilly for the Assembly seat in the 109th District.
Wasielewski was endorsed this year by the Republican and Conservative parties.
While he admits he does not come from a political background, Wasielewski said he has an extensive military background that would benefit him as an assemblyman. After ending his career as a major in the Air Force, Wasielewski became a volunteer emergency responder in Clifton Park and Halfmoon.
I think I am the voice of the residents of the 109th Assembly District, he said.
If elected, Wasielewski said he would implement a property tax cap to provide tax relief to state homeowners. Another platform he is running on includes reforming the school budget process.
Wasielewski also said he supports law-abiding gun owners.
Wasielewski, if elected, said he hopes to decrease the state’s billion-dollar deficit and that he will work to ensure that no new taxes are imposed upon the residents in the district.
