The Town of Clifton Park broke ground on a new park on the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 14, in an effort to create another recreational option for residents.
The Riverfront Park is a 6-acre site near the shore of the Mohawk River, off of Riverview Road. Boaters and kayakers will be able to launch from the park, and there is a scenic overlook that will include several picnic tables. Albany-based Peter Luizzi Brothers has been contracted for the work, and it is expected the park will be finished by early 2009.
The property was purchased from nearby Riverview Orchards in 2006 for $202,000, half of which was paid for through funds from the county Farmland and Open Space Protection Program. The rest was paid out of the town’s approximately $10 million surplus.
The surplus will also pay for more than $100,000 of construction work, along with a $180,000 grant from the New York State Canal Corp’s Erie Canal Greenway Grant Program.`
