The Schenectady Christian School boys soccer team has its sights set on another Western Athletic Conference South Division title.
Schenectady Christian (11-2-0) was in second place entering Wednesday’s home game against Berne-Knox-Westerlo, one point behind first-place Middleburgh (11-2-1). But if the Falcons sweep their three remaining games including a home-and-home series with Duanesburg, they can overtake the Knights.
We control our own destiny, which is a great position to be in, said Schenectady Christian coach Chad Bowman.
The Falcons can thank their defense for putting them in position to challenge for the South Division title. Schenectady Christian has posted seven shutouts this season including a 1-0 overtime victory over Sharon Springs last Friday.
`Chris Kovel has been awesome as our sweeper this year,` said Bowman. `And we only have four seniors on the team, but they’ve all stepped up.`
Offensively, the Gallup brothers have been leading the Falcons. Sophomore Matt Gallup has scored 11 goals this season, while older brother R.J. has 10 goals and two assists.
Bowman said he’s hoping his team will continue to play well as it hits the home stretch of the WAC season.
`If these kids can scratch out a league title, that will be an accomplishment,` he said.“
