Shenendehowa’s top 400-yard freestyle relay team defeated Bethlehem by more than two seconds to win Tuesday’s girls swim meet in Bethlehem.
The team of Caitlin Salerno, Olivia Samson, Lisa Liu and Kara Zebrowski swam a time of 3:44.88 to earn the points the Plainsmen needed to edge Bethlehem 94-92.
Samson and Zebrowski each won two individual events to lead Shen. Samson won the 50 and 100 freestyles in respective times of 25.87 and 56.09 seconds, while Zebrowski took first place in the 100 butterfly (1:01.19) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.28).
Kelsey Barbour added a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.82) for Shen, which also won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.
Tara O’Donnell (200 freestyle), Kirstie Russell (diving) and Bethany Powhida (500 freestyle) won events for Bethlehem.
Elsewhere in Section II Tuesday, Shaker’s Hailey Kopp out-touched Saratoga’s Ali Smoak at the wall in the 400 freestyle relay to give the Blue Bison the points they needed to defeat the Blue Streaks 95-91.
The Shaker team of Kopp, Andrea Wiegman, Talia Sternbach and Caroline Rehfuss finished with a time of 4:01.33, .13 seconds ahead of Saratoga’s quartet of Smoak, Alyssa DiFabio, Laurie Jackson and Siobhan Gomer.
Kopp also won the 200 freestyle (2:05.35), while Rehfuss took first place in the 100 freestyle (57.08) for Shaker. Erin Luke added a victory in the 100 backstroke (1:07.00).
DiFabio (500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke) Christina Grandjacquet (200 individual medley), Taylor Sloane (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly) and Heather Markus (diving) won individual events for Saratoga.
Niskayuna defeated Ballston Spa 98-86 by winning 10 of the 12 events. The Scotties’ victories came in diving (Addison Walkowiak) and the 400 freestyle relay (Kara Slocum, Stefani Schmitz, Mariah Lamb, Danielle Collins).`
