The Commercial Zone Advisory Committee held a workshop to discuss with the public its progress toward drafting a revision for the town’s zoning laws, on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and the public responded with a variety of criticisms and recommendations.
The meeting took place at Clayton A. Bouton High School in Voorheesville and was facilitated by Behan Planning Associates.
Residents of New Scotland and other interested parties weighed in on two specific questions regarding CZAC’s approach to redrafting the town’s zoning laws to better fit with the Comprehensive Plan.
The public was asked to comment on what they liked about CZAC’s preliminary approach and what they do not like.
The public’s suggestions ranged from everything from rezoning the district, to requiring a financial commitment from developers, to constructing a botanical garden.
I hope they preserve the rural nature of the town of New Scotland, said New Scotland resident Allan Bausback. `I hope the changes [in the zoning law] reflect that.`
Another resident, Peter Burde was concerned about how the vast amount of information gathered in the evening would be grafted to provide a meaningful and useful tool for the CZAC.
`How is it going to be brought together,` Burde said.
Burde added he supports a 50,000 square foot size cap on commercial buildings, but would favor an appeals process.
