The Guilderland Board of Education accepted High School principal Michael Paolino’s resignation from his post at a Tuesday. Sept. 16, meeting.
Paolino has been on paid leave since July 28 and will remain on leave until his resignation effective Dec. 31, according to information provided by the school district.
School officials have not disclosed the reason for placing Paolino on administrative leave.
Other media outlets reported Paolino’s leave came at the same time as teachers accused him of making racist and homophobic comments.
Paolino has been principal since October, and formerly taught at Voorheesville High School.
The board also appointed Brian McCann as acting principal, who served as assistant principal for 17 years, according to the release. He will serve as acting principal until the end of the 2008-2009, school year.
Guilderland is very fortunate to have such an experienced and energetic leader at the helm of our high school, said Superintendent of School John McGuire. `We are confident that Mr. McCann and his team will provide strong and effective leadership throughout this transition period.`
Aaron Sicotte, an English teacher at the school since 2003, will now serve as Assistant Principal, according to school officials.
