Joseph Tassarotti, a senior at Colonie Central High School in the South Colonie Central School District, has been named a semifinalist in the competition for the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Semifinalists, including Tassarotti, are eligible to receive scholarships for which the program provides more than $35 million total for next Spring.
According to a press release sent out by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, about 90 percent of the semifinalists will go on to become finalists and about hal will actually win a National Merit Scholarship.
