League: Class B West Division
Head coach: Mike DiCocco
Key players: Trevor Gaughan (senior WR/LB), Kyle McKelvey (senior QB/DB), Madison DeCerce (senior RB/LB), Mark Waite (senior OL/DL), Dan Bonitatibus (senior WR/DB), Billy Chandler (senior WR/DB)
Outlook: The Sabres have two things going for them entering the 2008 season: they have several veterans back from last year’s team, and perennial Class B power Fonda-Fultonville dropped to Class C this year.
Still, DiCocco cautions that Schalmont has to play consistently well in order to move out of the West Division basement. If we play without mistakes, I think we can be competitive, said DiCocco. `But, the league is tough.`
The five-team West Division is tough. Defending Class B champion Cobleskill-Richmondville has tailback Ryan Adams and quarterback Spencer LaMountain back, while Hudson Falls, Broadalbin-Perth and Johnstown all have key veterans returning.
`I think we’ll have to wait and see,` said DiCocco. `We have to play our first two non-league games and see how it goes.`
Schamont visits Albany Academy Saturday. “
