Project Access, an initiative to cut down on drivers parking illegally in handicap spots, garnered $6,260 in traffic fines during a one-day sweep on Friday, Aug. 29.
Albany County Sheriff James L. Campbell announced that a total of 35 parking summonses were issued to individuals parked illegally, according to information provided by the Albany County Traffic Safety Board.
The Albany Police department issued 26 summonses, the Colonie Police Department issued seven, and Crossgates Mall and Stuyvesant Plaza Security each issued one summons, according to the report.
The program has been in place since 1994 and a total of 38 sweeps have been conducted since that time. A total of 1864 summonses, totaling $195,210 in fines have been collected since the programs conception, according to the report.
