Local police and law enforcement agencies are going to be cracking down on motorists illegally parking in handicapped spaces during a one-day effort on Friday, Aug. 29.
Members of Albany County Law Enforcement agencies and the private agencies in Crossgates Mall and Stuyvesant Plaza will participate in Project Access, according to the Albany County Traffic Safety Board.
`The goal of this one-day effort is to increase the awareness and compliance of handicapped parking issues and to re-educate the public regarding the difficulties encountered by person with disabilities,` according to a written statement provided by the traffic board.
The effort will be the 38th saturation effort in Albany County since the programs implementation in December of 1994. During that period there has been a total of 1809 summonses issued yielding $185,590 in fines, according to information provided by the traffic safety board.
