Residents of the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School District will soon be receiving their tax bills for the 2008-2009 school year. Although rates for all four towns in the district have gone up, the average 4 percent increase is less than the 4.5 percent anticipated when the budget was voted on in May.
Rates will be increasing by 1.7 percent in Ballston to $18.99 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Charlton residents will see a 3.5 percent increase to $24.71 per $1,000 of assessed property value. Rates in Clifton Park will go up 4.2 percent to $31.12, and Glenville will see a 6.4 percent jump to $19.77 this fall.
The assessed value of all property within the school district is now over $1.5 billion, according to a statement released by the district.
The tax increases come as a result of reassessments by the towns. They rely partly on estimations by the New York Office of Real Property Services, which calculates equalization rates for towns to better spread the tax burden across the district.
The overall school budget for the coming year stands at $52,240,344.`
