The State Board of Elections said on Monday, Aug. 4 that Joanne Yepsen won’t be appearing on the Sept. 9 primary for the Democratic nomination for the 43rd State Senate seat. But Yepsen won’t be counted out without a fight.
The Saratoga Springs Supervisor filed a last-minute motion to validate on Thursday, Aug. 7, hoping to overturn decisions that left her 32 signatures short of the 1,000 supporters required to appear on the primary ballot. She is scheduled to present her case to the state Supreme Court on the morning of Monday, Aug. 11.
If successful, she will be facing off against Brian Premo of Brunswick and former Kirsten Gillibrand (D-20th Congressional) staffer Mike Russo of Saratoga.
Yepsen originally collected more than 1,350 signatures, but the board threw many out after objections were filed.
Yepsen could not be reached for comment.
Nassau Councilman Ray Seney and 112th District Assemblyman Roy McDonald are running in the Republican primary.
