Former Guilderland High School teacher Ann Marie McManus said she is still trying to find a way to teach at the high school next fall, but will give her all to the Farnsworth Middle School if she does not end up teaching at the high school in September.
She said another Social Studies teacher in the high school, unrelated to her transfer, resigned, and McManus said she is applying to get that position.
I have been trying to pursue an [alternate] avenue back to the high school, she said.
Some have told her that it is unlikely she will be teaching at the high school.
`I was told by one administrator that should I move on, basically, pack my stuff up.
Other administrators are more optimistic about her chances at filling the new vacancy, she said.
`I love what I do,` she said. `I am not going to not do what I am passionate about. I was not part of the discussion and the transfer. I do want to be in the high school, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to do my job.`
McManus and Matt Nelligan, another teacher in the department, were transferred as a result of a `culture climate inquiry,` conducted by the district. The inquiry found the environment in the department to have a ` boy’s club,` of `locker room,` mentality.
